People suffering from gout should not consume pea protein. It exacerbates the condition by increasing the production of uric acid in the system.
Origins
Pea protein is made by grinding dried yellow peas into powder, then mixing the powder with water and separating the carbohydrates and fiber from the protein. This can be done using natural enzymes. Some pea protein may be hydrolyzed, or chemically broken down into amino acids. If so, this must be indicated on the label. Peas originated in central Asia and Europe.
